Environmental Issues That Matter

RSS Feed

When the environmental “movement” began rivers literally burned, litter was far more than a nuisance, and many bodies of water coughed up scores of dead fish on a daily basis.  Those conditions are now rare, but true believers chase ephemeral “climate change,” or “pollutants” not yet proven harmful to levels that were below detection just a decade ago, as if the threats were as imminent and acute as when Lake Erie had more dead fish than live ones.  Sadly, increasingly, they do so at the expense of those environmental problems that are real and are acute.

The L.A. wildfires of last January are the gift that just keeps on giving.  Those following the story know that the Palisades fire has officially been ruled a “holdover” from a fire a week earlier that was not fully extinguished.  Well, Thursday it was revealed that firefighters were pulled off that earlier fire by their superiors despite their from the scene protests.  (Extensive comment from HotAir and PJMedia.)  Reasons for the judgement, or lack thereof, of those superiors is not yet known, but one has to wonder how budgetary concerns fit into their calculations.  The F.D. had had its budget cut while the city and county are spending many more millions of climate related projects.

The picture looks even worse when you consider that raw sewage, dumped into the Pacific in Tijuana has been flowing north and contaminating the waters off San Diego, including making NAVY SEALS in training ill.  Apparently this has been a low priority project for our federal government until current EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced a program to address the issue shaving decades off the previous projections.  It would appear that the EPA under prior administrations had more important things to do, like rule our exhalations a “pollutant,” than protect the health of our best and brightest from raw Mexican messes.

Two situation were acute and severe environmental issues were ignored or back-burnered for the sake of chasing an environmental problem that might or might not show itself in decades or centuries.  What this reveals is that the agenda is something other than the environment.  And since all the solutions being proposed for that future problem involve massive transfers of wealth, well, I think that agenda is transparent.

Elsewhere…

The world remains a very ugly place.  It is stunning that we worry about climate change in a world where genocide remains possible.

And the ugliness is here at home too.  Salena Zito points out that Democrats denounced for Virginia Governor Ralph Northam for appearing in blackface, but  apparently Jay Jones publicly fantasizing the death of his opponents is no big deal.  In this case they claim “the stakes are just that high,” but they don’t even bother to hold up something as vague as climate change.

And then, well, and then, they grasp at straws creating a movement out of a trickle, kind like climate change.  The lack of numbers in that piece is rather stunning.
